What to Expect From Walk & Talk Therapy

We love nature and we’re thrilled to offer Walk & Talk Therapy to Oahu residents! We know you might have questions, so we took the time to answer a few questions for you.

Where do we meet?

Walk & Talk Therapy session location will be discussed between you and your therapist either during your free 15-minute phone consultation or during your intake (first) session. All park locations are located in Honolulu, HI.

What exactly happens during a Walk & Talk Therapy session in Honolulu, HI?

We’ll meet at our agreed-upon park location and your therapist will outline the various trails in the park. Then we’ll choose which trail or pathway sounds good to you. All trails are concrete walkways that are relatively flat and require no prior hiking experience. There may be a couple of small hills, but we’ll let you know ahead of time when the hills are coming up!

Your walk and talk therapy sessions will look very similar to a traditional 50-minute therapy session, except you’ll be outside. Similar to a typical therapy session, your therapist will most likely start the session by asking you how you’re doing and “what would you like to talk about today?” We’ll take your lead and go from there!

If you show up to the session and don’t feel like walking that day or don’t want to walk the entire time, we can plan to find a comfortable park bench to sit on.

What happens if the weather is bad (i.e. rainy or too hot)?

We’ll text you if the weather isn’t great that day and we’ll offer to have your session online or at our Honolulu office space.

  1. Schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation. During your consultation, your therapist will get to know you and give you space to ask any questions that you may have. 

  2. While on the phone with you, your therapist will schedule your intake session, email you intake paperwork via our secure client portal, and text you directions to the park.

  3. You’ll complete the intake paperwork at least 24 hours before your scheduled intake session.

  4. On the day of your session, you’ll put on your walking shoes, meet your therapist at the park and begin your healing journey.
